The essay contains SRM's forecast study of Italian tourism dynamics, with particular attention to territorial detail, especially with reference to the southern context.
The vigorous recovery of tourism demand in 2022 will be consolidated in 2023, but to what extent? 2023 will be the tourism year of culture, nature, and the attractiveness of Made in Italy, but there remain important elements that may alter the full recovery of the sector, such as geopolitical dynamics and the effects of war on tourism, inflation, the energy and raw materials crisis, the health scenario, and the national and international mood of tourists. On the basis of this consideration, three scenarios were developed (optimistic, basic and less optimistic) which are characterised by a different intensity of the consequences of the risk factors on the sector, less impactful and lasting in the first scenario and more serious in the last.
