On Monday, September 11, 2023, we were in Ravenna for the conference RAVENNA al CENTRO: the development of Ports and Logistics for an increasingly international territory.
The event organized by Intesa Sanpaolo and the North Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, in collaboration with SRM and the Chamber of Commerce of Ferrara and Ravenna, started from the analyses and data of the 2023 Italian Maritime Economy Report with the aim will be to bring out the most important issues related to the development of the port of Ravenna. In fact, national and international scenarios call our ports of call to increasingly complex challenges to grow the levels of competitiveness of our maritime system, among them sustainability and digitalization. Huge investments and increasingly qualified human capital are needed.

SRM's 2023 Report is presented in a special edition that recounts the last ten years of phenomena, trends and dynamics which have characterised the maritime transport and logistics sector.
With this interpretative approach, and keeping in mind that the maritime sector represents a major asset for the country, an attempt is made here to streamline the main events that have had an impact, from those that have disrupted its balance - energy crisis, rising prices of commodities, the pandemic, war - to the evolution of shipping routes and the new challenges and opportunities calling for attention, such as digitalisation, sustainability, NRRP investments and the development of the Suez Canal.
